Hello:
I was looking for info on BSNL in Bangalore and came across your Blog. I'm currently working in the US and am trying to see if I can work from home in Bangalore for a couple of months. I was wondering if you know anybody who is using the Home 1000, 1800 or 3300 plans. Was also wondering if could please let me know your thoughts on:
1. How long it takes to get a connection
2. Can one really get the upload and download speeds advertised...what are the typical upload speeds
3. How reliable is the connection.

Would appreciate any feedback.

Hi Rajesh,

I use Home 1000 plan now, was using Home Unlimited till Jan.

1. BSNL has a long waiting list now for dataone connections. A friend of mine residing in Rajrajeshwari Nagar area was mentioning a waiting list of 900 there. It varies from place to place I believe so the number may change depending on which area you want to relocate to.

2. The upload/download speeds are generally advertised as upto 2Mbps. I have not seen 2Mbps till now but usually 1.5Mbps speed is there.

3. Connection is mostly there. I live in BTM area and I find it always on. There has not been any single problem from BSNL side till date.

There are various online broadband forums now, and it may help if you check the feedback of users in those forums as well.

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine. Our office canteen has this great Biriyani counter. I told my friend that this guy has one of his outlets somewhere near RV Dental College in JP Nagar. My friend said, you mean the one opposite to HDFC bank. We recently underwent the domestic change management exercise of sending our young daughter to a play school. Although we have been thru this once (our son), but still the anxiety was no less. It is very difficult to break a young kid's heart. Hand her over to a teacher unknown to her while she is still crying... And this actually happened when she exchanged laps between me and her teacher although against her will. In the first two weeks, it was all cries, sobs and such for - स्कूल नहीं जाना! ( I don't want to go to school)...  Two weeks later, again cries, sobs and such for -  स्कूल जाना है! (I want to go to school!) That was a quick transition, we thought. RT...

I came back from long vacation recently. Itinerary being - Bangalore --> Delhi --> Varanasi --> Lucknow --> Unchahar --> Lucknow --> Delhi --> Bangalore. Except for one train journey (Lucknow - Delhi), all the travels by train and plane were on time, "RT" as they write on the Rail inquiry boards. And I really feel good about this overall RT experience. The train delay was interesting. We were coming from Lucknow to Delhi by this Kaifiyat Express (Super fast). It runs from Azamgarh ( Kaifi Azami 's birth place and now famous for Abu Salem) to Delhi. It was an hour late at Lucknow and we boarded the train at 12:00am in the morning. When I woke up later in the morning, we were heading towards Aligarh and we were around 2 and a half hour late already. Aligarh is around 2 hrs from Delhi at full speed.
